5-17 Vaccine - Authorized

CDC authorizes Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for 5-11-year-olds

Park County (November 4, 2021) — On November 2, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices unanimously recommended use of the Pfizer vaccine in this younger population and Friday’s FDA amendment of the emergency use authorization for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine to include children ages 5-11. Please review the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) approval for use of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for 5-11 year-olds.

“Children are now eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine. While children are less likely to be hospitalized or die from COVID-19 than adults, we’ve had 239 cases among children in Park County,” said Lynn Ramey, Director, Park County Public Health.

Park County Public Health (PCPH) highly recommends parents and guardians consult with your family doctor if you plan to get your children vaccinated.

While distribution began this week, PCPH expects pediatric doses to be available in Park County beginning the week of Nov. 8.

COVID-19 vaccines for 5-11-year-olds will be available at many of the same places already administering other COVID-19 vaccines as soon as this week -- doctor’s offices, pharmacies, community vaccination events, local public health clinics, school-based health centers and more.

Please note, Colorado’s Healthy Families and Workplaces Act entitles people to paid time off from work to take their child to a vaccine appointment or care for them if they experience vaccine side effects.

Additional information, including a list of providers accepting advance appointments, can be found on the CDPHE website.
