Pfizer COVID19 Vaccine Receives Full FDA Approval
Park County, Colo. – Yesterday the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the first COVID19 vaccine, marking an important milestone in the ongoing pandemic. The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is the first to receive full approval by the FDA, meeting the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality required for an approved product.
“We now have much more data on the effectiveness as well as the safety of the COVID19 vaccine. It’s met all the rigorous criteria that the FDA has in place. The FDA can say in a definitive manner that it works, that it is safe, and that you are much safer getting the vaccine than getting COVID19,” said Dr. Katherine Fitting, Medical Advisor for Park County Public Health.
While the FDA approval of the vaccine pertains to individuals 16 and older, the vaccine continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 12 through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.
