Breaking News

Building:

  • Best of luck to Lynn!  Lynn is retiring after many years in the Building Department.  She, and her wealth of knowledge, will be greatly missed.  We wish her the best!  Please join us to say goodbye at an open house reception on 2/15 from  3 pm to 5 pm.  Thank you for everything, Lynn!
  • Good luck also to Travis and Kim!  We also wish Kim and Travis the best of luck in their future endeavors, and thank you for your service!
  • Temporary inspection schedule.  We are actively seeking Building Inspector/Plans Examiner replacements.  In the mean time, Michael and I cannot possibly cover the entire county every day.  Please plan on no south inspections Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; and no north inspections on Tuesday and Thursday.  We will do what we can, and reducing drive time will help.  I will also accept footer and foundation wall inspections by the engineer of record temporarily, and may be rolling out some longer term changes.  Again, thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
  • !! ICC training next week !!  Building staff will be attending required training next week.  As a result, we will have very limited inspections and counter assistance.  We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation.
  • Limited inspections.  We also wish Kim and Travis the best of luck in their future endeavors!  We are actively seeking their replacements.  In the mean time, Michael and I cannot possibly cover the entire county every day.  Please plan on no south inspections Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; and no north inspections on Tuesday and Thursday.  We will do what we can, and reducing drive time will help.  Again, thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
  • Snow load app.  The app found here:  Snow Load for Structure should be used to determine snow loads.  Just enter the schedule number of the property and scroll the text box to find the ground snow load.  Based on the updated data, I will now accept Code-compliant reductions for roof loads on engineered structures.  No reduction is permitted on non-engineered designs.
  • On-line applications.  We are close to launching a pilot project to test on-line applications.  We are starting with roofing and mechanical permits, but hope to expand the system for all permits.

Environmental & Code Compliance:

  • Septic regs update:  The state has once again updated their on-site wastewater system (OWTS) regulations, so we are also required to update ours.  We will accept public comment when a draft is ready for review.  Stay tuned...

Wishing you all a successful building season!   -Sheila Cross, Director of Development Services
