On January 11, 2017, the roof of an assembly building in Breckenridge collapsed due to the loads caused by heavy snow and ice. The building was an older structure at the resort campus and had a relatively flat roof. The walls separated and the roof fell. Luckily, no one was injured.
There are precautions you can take to reduce stress on your roof, as well as signs of a potentially over-stressed roof to be aware of. FEMA provides helpful Snow Load Safety Guidance.
