Elevenmile Canyon River Project

Elevenmile Canyon River Project

Elevenmile Canyon is a renowned recreation area for fishing, kayaking, hiking,  and rock climbing. But human activities along the river have resulted  in erosion and habitat impacts. To address this issue a large partnership was formed in 2004 between the US Forest Service,  Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP), Trout Unlimited, Boy Scouts of America, Park County, and others.

Dead ponderosa pines from the Hayman Fire area were strategically placed in  the river to reduce bank erosion and increase trout habitat (photo  above). Here, partially submerged trees along a thousand feet of stream  now benefit both fish and anglers.
