Park County Public Health Department
Park County Public Health Nursing Services
“The science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and
promoting health and efficiency through organized community effort.”
--Winslow,
1920
Public Health
has been caring for the health of communities for more than 100
years. In fact, it’s been credited with adding 25 years to the life
expectancy of people living in the United States. Public Health
accomplished this feat by starting programs on vaccinations, safer
work places, motor-vehicle safety and control of infectious diseases
like tuberculosis, typhoid, and cholera.
Park County
Public Health Nursing Services are available to the entire community
and are partly funded with tax dollars. For some services a fee
will be charged, but no one is refused service due to an inability
to pay.

Emergency
Preparedness Response -
Public
Health plays a vital role in emergency preparedness. After
major disasters, Public Health workers are often called upon to
participate in a coordinated response and to protect residents
from disease outbreaks and other hazards due to contaminated
food and water, chemical releases, insect-borne diseases and
unmet medical needs. Park County Public Health and other first
responders lead the county’s disaster preparedness efforts. The
agency is focused on health emergencies that could potentially
harm many people, such as pandemic flu, food borne diseases,
hazardous releases, natural disasters and terrorism. |
Local and
state Public Health authorities have always played an important
role in all phases of the emergency management system,
including: preparedness planning and hazard mitigation,
emergency response, and disaster recovery. This new level of
commitment to public health preparedness improves local and
state capacity to respond to any health emergency.
The Public
Health Emergency Preparedness Program is funded by the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services through the U.S. Center
for Disease Control.
Emergency Preparedness includes:
 |
Health
Education regarding prevention and control of disease |
 |
Preparedness
and planning for public health emergencies with agencies and
community partners with whom we respond |
 |
Surveillance
of disease within the county to ensure early detection of
outbreaks |
 |
Investigation of disease cases to ensure appropriate care of
clients and their contacts |
 |
Institution
of social distancing measures such as isolation, quarantine and
the closing of venues to decrease the spread of disease |
 |
Dissemination of health information during public health
emergencies to ensure residents and citizens have the most
accurate and updated information |
 |
Planning for
mass prophylaxis dispensing/vaccination to residents and
visitors in the event of an emergency that medicines/vaccines
are available |
 |
Exercising
with community and agency partners to ensure a timely and well
coordinated response |
